Letting in the Light

I painted this in France, just after coming in from an early morning swim — that blissful, calm part of the day when the air is still cool and full of promise. The doors were flung open to let in the light and the scent of the garden, and everything felt washed clean and new. I loved the long, slanting shadows across the tiled floor, the little patches of reflected colour, and the way the light poured in as if it had weight.

I wanted the painting to hold that moment — the warmth of the floor beneath bare feet, the glimmer of wet sandals left behind, and the quiet invitation of coffee waiting on the table outside. It’s a painting about light, freshness, and the joy of simply being present in the morning.
