A Warm Evening

I was interested by the contrast between the cool, fading light of evening and the warm, golden glow spilling from the windows. It’s that moment when day gives way to night — a quiet pause filled with stillness and expectancy. I wanted the paint itself to hold that balance: the deep blues and purples of the garden layered and textured to suggest shadow and depth, while the interior light is painted with thin, luminous glazes to let it radiate outwards. The figure, caught in that pool of light, adds a sense of calm and intimacy. For me, this painting is about the comfort of light and the sense of belonging that it brings at the end of the day.
